To demonstrate our determination to provide a comprehensive range of community programs and services to address the wellness needs of the Chinese community, St. John’s McNicoll Centre has started to offer programs to the mature adults in the community including residents of Vintage Garden since April 2012.
In 2015, with the completion of Vintage Garden I, SJMC Community Centre was relocated to 1038 McNicoll Avenue. The new centre had many activity rooms fit for various kinds of activities. In consideration of the needs and interests of the mature adults in the community and our residents, we had offered a wide range of programs including many learning and activity classes. All classes were very well attended.
During the 2019 Covid-19 pandemic, the Community Centre was forced to suspend all classes and activities.
SJMC is now actively planning a new independent community centre with over 13,000 square feet of space. It will include a large exercise/activity auditorium and many class rooms. The plan also includes a pharmacy and other health support services. The new Community Centre is scheduled for completion along with the Vintage Garden Phase 3 Life Lease Building in 2028.
